Indian Granite Manufacturer and Supplier to the USA
Direct from our Chennai factory to your US port. Slabs, countertops, monuments, and custom-cut granite shipped to American importers, fabricators, and project developers since 1996.
Three Decades of Supplying Indian Granite to the USA
Devinarayan Granites Ltd has been manufacturing and exporting natural stone from Chennai since 1996. We’re part of the Devinarayan Group, in the granite trade since 1982, with our own active quarries — Vizag Blue, Paradiso, Multicolour, and Indian Juparana — and a vertically integrated factory operation.
For US buyers, that translates to one practical reality: when you order granite from us, you’re buying from the company that quarried the block, cut the slab, polished the surface, and packed the container. There’s no trader markup, no broken telephone on specs, no third-party quality slippage. Our Managing Director, Mr. Mahesh Narayanaswamy, sits on the Stone Panel of CAPEXIL (Government of India, Ministry of Commerce) and is a thrice-elected President of the Tamil Nadu Granite Quarry Owners Exporters Association.
As a direct Indian granite exporter to the USA, we currently supply importers, monument retailers, kitchen countertop fabricators, architectural firms, and project developers across the United States — from California and Texas through Florida, New York, Georgia, and the upper Midwest.
Why American Buyers Import Indian Granite from India
The United States is the world’s largest importer of finished granite, and India is one of its top supplier countries. According to US trade data, the US imported granite worth roughly $44 billion through the first eleven months of 2024 alone, with more than 20,000 active US granite importers sourcing from suppliers around the world. Indian granite holds a significant share of that volume — and the reasons are practical, not sentimental.
Color Range No Other Country Offers
India produces over 100 commercially-quarried granite varieties, including the world-benchmark blacks (Absolute Black, Black Galaxy), the most-imported countertop colors (Tan Brown, Steel Grey, Kashmir White), and exotic options (Paradiso, Indian Juparana, Vizag Blue) that aren't available anywhere else.
Higher Density Than Most Alternatives
Indian granite typically delivers 2.65–2.75 g/cm³ density, 130–225 MPa compressive strength, and water absorption below 0.4% — physical properties that meet or exceed ASTM C615 specifications used by US architectural firms.
Pricing Built for Container Volumes
US importers buying directly from Indian manufacturers typically pay 30–50% less than buying through European or domestic distributors carrying the same material.
Duty-Free Entry Under HTS 6802.23
Worked monumental and building granite imported into the US under Harmonized Tariff Schedule code 6802.23.00 typically enters duty-free, making Indian granite landed cost particularly competitive against domestic and European alternatives.

Indian Granite Import Process from India to the USA
Buying granite from India should be straightforward. Here’s how we manage US shipments end-to-end.
1. Inquiry & Quote
Send us your product spec — color, dimensions, finish, thickness, quantity. We quote within one working day on FOB Chennai, CFR, or CIF basis (your choice).
2. Sample Approval
We ship physical samples of the granite color and finish for your approval. For first-time orders, this is strongly recommended.
3. Pro Forma Invoice & Advance
Once specs and pricing are confirmed, we issue a pro forma invoice. Standard terms: 30% advance via wire transfer / TT, balance against shipping documents. L/C terms available for established repeat buyers.
4. Production
Manufacturing begins on advance receipt. Standard production timelines are 25–40 days depending on order size, customization, and current production load. Custom monument work takes longer.
5. Quality Inspection
Pre-shipment inspection at our Chennai facility. Buyer or third-party inspection (SGS, Bureau Veritas) welcome. We document each container with photographs at the loading stage.
6. Container Loading & Shipping
Granite is packed in fumigated wooden crates with foam corner protection, strapped and braced inside the container to prevent shifting. ISPM-15 compliant for US entry. Bill of Lading issued.
7. Documentation Package
Complete export documentation provided: Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, Bill of Lading, ISPM-15 Fumigation Certificate, Phytosanitary Certificate, and any additional documents your customs broker requires.
8. CBP Clearance & Delivery
Your customs broker files ISF 10+2 at least 24 hours before vessel loading. On US arrival, your broker handles CBP clearance using our documentation. Container released for delivery to your facility, fabrication shop, or warehouse.
Total transit time from india: typically 25–35 days to West Coast ports, 35–45 days to East Coast and Gulf ports, depending on routing and transshipment.
US Customs, Documentation, and Duties for Indian Granite
HTS Codes
Granite shipments to the US generally enter under HTS 6802.23 (worked monumental or building stone of granite). Specific finished products may classify under 6802.23.0010 (granite slabs), 6802.93 (other monumental granite), or 6810 (articles of artificial stone) depending on processing level. Your customs broker confirms the exact subheading at entry.
Duty Rates
Most worked granite under HTS 6802.23.00 enters the United States duty-free under the standard MFN tariff rate. This makes Indian granite landed cost particularly competitive — duty is rarely a meaningful cost component on a finished granite container.
ISF 10+2 Filing
For ocean shipments, the importer of record (or the broker on their behalf) must file an Importer Security Filing (ISF) with US Customs at least 24 hours before vessel loading at the origin port. We provide all source data needed for ISF filing.
Customs Bond
US Customs requires a customs bond for commercial granite imports. This is the importer's responsibility — typically arranged through your customs broker as a continuous bond (annual coverage) or single-entry bond (per shipment).
Export Documents We Provide
- Commercial Invoice (with HS code, country of origin, freight terms)
- Packing List (container-level dimensions, count, weight)
- Certificate of Origin (issued by Government of India / Chamber of Commerce)
- Bill of Lading (Master and House BL)
- ISPM-15 Fumigation Certificate
- Phytosanitary Certificate
- Mill Test Certificate / Material Test Report (on request, for architectural orders)
US Quality Standards for Indian Granite
ASTM C615 — Granite Dimension Stone
The primary US specification for granite used in architectural and building applications. Covers density, water absorption, compressive strength, modulus of rupture, and abrasion resistance. We can supply test reports to ASTM C615 for architectural orders requiring specification compliance.
ASTM C97 / C99 / C170 / C880
Material property tests US architects specify for granite — water absorption (C97), modulus of rupture (C99), compressive strength (C170), and flexural strength (C880). Color-specific test reports available.
NSF/ANSI 51 — Food Equipment Materials
For granite countertops used in commercial food service environments (restaurants, hotels, hospitals, food processing), NSF/ANSI 51 certification verifies material safety for food contact. Available on request for project-volume orders.
ISPM-15 Wood Packaging
All wooden crating used for US shipments is ISPM-15 compliant — heat-treated and fumigated, bearing the IPPC logo, mandatory for entry into the United States.

Indian Granite to USA — FAQs
What's the minimum order for shipping granite from India to the USA?
Our minimum order is one full container. A 20ft container holds approximately 2,200–2,500 sq ft of finished countertops, or 16–20 gangsaw slabs. We work with first-time importers placing a single container as well as established US fabricators running multi-container programs.
How long does shipping take from Chennai to a US port?
Production lead time is typically 25–40 days from order confirmation. Sea freight from Chennai is roughly 25–35 days to West Coast ports (Long Beach, LA, Oakland, Seattle), 35–45 days to East Coast and Gulf ports (NY/NJ, Savannah, Charleston, Houston, Norfolk). Total order-to-delivery typically runs 60–85 days depending on routing.
What duty will I pay on Indian granite imported to the US?
Worked granite under HTS 6802.23.00 typically enters the US duty-free at the standard MFN rate. Your customs broker will confirm the exact classification at entry. Other charges (CBP merchandise processing fee, harbor maintenance fee, broker fees, customs bond) apply but are usually small compared to product and freight cost.
What payment terms do you offer to first-time US buyers?
Standard terms for first-time orders are 30% advance via wire transfer / TT, with the balance against shipping documents. Letter of Credit (L/C at sight) terms are available for established repeat buyers. We’ll confirm exact terms in the pro forma invoice.
Can you ship to my specific US port?
Yes. We ship to all major US container ports including LA, Long Beach, Oakland, Seattle, Tacoma, Houston, New Orleans, NY/NJ, Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah, Miami, and Jacksonville. Routing is typically determined by your delivery destination and best available freight rates. We can arrange split-container shipments for fabricators with multi-state distribution.
Do you provide samples before bulk orders?
Yes — and we strongly recommend it for first-time orders. We ship sample tiles of the granite color and finish for your approval before container production begins.
What thickness should I order — 2 cm or 3 cm?
For US kitchen countertops, 3 cm is the standard thickness — provides better edge integrity without requiring laminated build-up. 2 cm is typical for bathroom vanity tops. For commercial flooring, 18 mm or 20 mm tile thickness is standard.
Can you provide ASTM C615 test reports for architectural projects?
Yes. For architectural specifications requiring ASTM compliance, we can provide material test reports covering density, water absorption, compressive strength, modulus of rupture, and abrasion resistance. Reports are color-specific and based on independent third-party testing.
Can you supply NSF/ANSI 51 certified granite for food service projects?
For commercial food service projects requiring NSF/ANSI 51 certification, we can arrange certified material on a project basis. Confirm requirement at the order stage.
Who handles US customs clearance — you or me?
US customs clearance is handled by your customs broker on the US side. We provide all required export documentation (Commercial Invoice, Packing List, Certificate of Origin, BOL, ISPM-15, Phytosanitary, etc.). For first-time importers, we can recommend US customs brokers experienced in granite imports.
What if material arrives damaged or below spec?
We document every container with photographs at the loading stage and pre-shipment inspection records. If damage occurs in transit, marine insurance handles the claim — your insurance broker will use our pre-shipment records to support it. For material disputes, we work directly with the importer to resolve through replacement, credit, or refund based on findings.
